Choked, Not Depleted.

Technology in action

An idle well is a condition to diagnose, not, by itself, proof that the reservoir is finished.

OWI APAC 2026

Start with why the well is idle.

At OWI APAC 2026, NGLTech presented a surface-production perspective on idle and marginal wells.

Liquid loading, backpressure and facility conditions are not the same as depletion.

The central distinction is simple but important: a well can stop joining the production system because of liquid loading, backpressure or host-facility conditions. Those are not the same as reservoir depletion, and they do not lead automatically to the same intervention.

Surface-technology screening is therefore a diagnosis, not a product pitch. Engineers need to understand the well’s pressure history, fluid behaviour, current header conditions, separator constraints, available utilities and the operating sequence before deciding whether pressure boosting, unloading, a facility change or a different route deserves further study.

NGLTech’s Enhanced LPPU™ is one mechanism considered for suitable low-pressure multiphase duties. It does not make every idle well a candidate. The first task is to establish the constraint and the operating window; only then can the equipment and commercial route be assessed.
